Transport Studies Unit

The Background.

Transport Studies Unit (TSU) is based within Oxford Universities School of Geography and the Environment. Since 1973 it has established a world-leading reputation in transport research. They approach global transport challenges from a social science and holistic perspective and collaborate with researchers from other disciplines within the University and based elsewhere.

TSU approached Monchü as they wanted to develop their own brand identity, but it was important that it sat comfortably next to the Oxford University brand.

The Project.

Monchü’s design team met with TSU so they could gain an insight into the departments values, how they work and how the branding would be used. They then went back to studio and developed a brief which informed the initial concepts presented and discussed with TSU. This process forged a clear way forwards and one logo was taken forward for development. The final logo was a bold typographical design, a feeling of movement was brought into the design with the integration of a dotted line, often used to indicate travel, and a strong gradient.

From here they developed a Brand Guidelines document, detailing the new brand elements and how it is to be used alongside the Oxford University branding. After this TSU commissioned Monchü to design their Research Agenda document which was a perfect opportunity to implement the new branding.
